About the Script

The instructions say not to leave a message. Shouldn’t I at least leave a message reminding the person to vote tomorrow?

  • No. Don’t leave a message. Just move on to the next call.

What do I do when the person who answers the phone hangs up on me?

  • Mark as “No,” you did not speak to them, “Not Home” as why, and move on to the next call.

What do I do when the person who answers yells at me and tells me to never call them back again?

  • Mark as “No,” you did not speak to them, “Refused” as why and move on to the next call.

What do I do when the person who answers the phone tells me that the voter has moved and wants to give me the voter’s new phone number?

My friends and I want to have a phone bank in Berkeley/Cambridge/Dallas. What do I have to do?

  • If you are already signed up for the daily link, and know how to run a phone bank, you are pretty much all set! Just recruit your team and schedule the event for the hours the phone bank is open (9am - 9pm Mon-Sat).

  • Forward the link of the day to the folks at your event when they arrive. Help them out with creating their own action ID and logging in. They don’t need to join the online team unless they want to receive the link of the day.

  • Pay attention to your email for an updated link (don’t switch until the old one boots you, though) and forward to your team members when needed.

Have fun, and thanks for your help!

Pro tips

  • Be courteous

  • Don’t take anything personally

  • Don’t spend too much time on any one call.

  • Don’t try to answer very specific questions for a voter on where and when to vote.

  • For voting information, suggest to get the information they need.

  • If voters have questions about their polling place, that information is listed to the left of their name at the top of the script.

  • Feel free to direct voters to our website,, and other resources if they ask questions you’re not sure how to answer!
